CLEAN AIR ZONES
Clean Air Zones are being introduced across the UK by local authorities in partnership with the Government to improve the air quality. The creation of Clean Air Zones is part of the government’s broader Air Quality Plan, which aims to improve air quality and address sources of pollution.
By working at a regional level, it is hoped that local authorities and businesses can take the most effective steps locally to contribute to improved air quality at a national level, and over 60 local authorities are currently considering new clean air measures including the potential introduction of Clean Air Zones.
Many Clean Air Zones will include road user charging schemes where vehicles will be required to meet minimum emissions standard or pay a charge to drive in the zone. Charging Zones will operate 24/7/365 with Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) being issued to no compliant vehicles where no charge is paid.
CDER Group have been responsible for the collection of unpaid PCNs issued for Road User Charging Schemes such as Clean Air Zones and Congestion Charging Schemes since 2004. Our Director of Road Traffic and Road User Charging, John Mason was responsible for the introduction and operation of the first Low Emission Zone in the UK and our experience in working for major transport authorities including Transport for London and Highways England and knowledge of Low and Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) enforcement puts us in an ideal position to assist Local Authorities in their CAZ planning, rollout and enforcement.
